PRESERVE Village Character

Issues

The Village is about to embark on a new Comprehensive Plan with rezoning.  We will work with property owners and developers to keep Village character while removing impediments to redevelopment. Ben and Shawn will preserve the village character while developing a plan for the future of the village.

The Village has limited land area and is largely built out.  The larger parcels such as the Angelica Plant and Ricketts need redevelopment.  Programs exist to assist municipalities in redeveloping sites in conjunction with municipalities and property owners.  Too many older buildings are vacant and deteriorating, dragging down the values of neighboring property.  Code enforcement and a vacant building fee increasing over time will help address this issue.  Incentives could be developed to encourage owner occupied rentals and accessory dwelling units and decrease the frequency of absentee landlords in the Village.  Taxes could be held at current valuation for 3 to 5 years for owners who significantly rehabilitate their homes or businesses.  Zoning codes need to be revised to allow owners to redevelop or replace existing buildings within the same footprint as currently exists or existed.  We will work with BSBPA, County and State economic development groups to encourage business to locate and expand in the Village.
