Shawn Raymond and Ben Baskin are running for the two Trustee positions under the ballot line “A Better BSPa.” Two years ago Liz Kormos and Christine Fitzpatrick decided to form a new ballot line because of their strong belief that party politics has contributed to Ballston Spa’s problems. For almost half a century one party has dominated Village politics and led to terms of well over two decades for the former Mayor and Village Trustees. Only with the election, four years ago, of Noah Shaw and Shawn Raymond has the financial problems of the Village seen the light of day.
This year Ballston Spa has joined the three quarters of municipalities in the country using some form of nonpartisan election system. In Saratoga County Galway, Stillwater and Round Lake all have non-partisan elections. In these elections’ individuals run on their merits instead of party.
A Better BSpa is non-partisan: two candidates who answer to all the taxpayers in the Village, regardless of political party.
